Spin Systems is a spin-off company from The University of Queensland
to commercialise pioneering research in magnetic resonance technology.
Spin is now an exporter of NMR micoimaging and microscopy products
to the world-wide market, employing 18 staff at its facilities in
Brisbane. Annual sales turnover has steadily increased since 1992
to almost $2million. Spin systems will develop and manufacture microimaging
components for the new generation high-field systems, including the
wide-bore 700 and 900 MHz instruments. Access to these systems is
essential for the R&D required to prototype and test these products.
The strong potential for this business has been recognised by the
NMR market's leading international systems integrator, German-based
Bruker Biospin GmbH who have made a significant investment (>A2.5million)
in the company. This partnership could see Queensland develop as the
major centre for magnetic resonance technology R&D and service
within the Pacific-Asia region and further highlights Queensland's
capacity to compete in world-wide high-technology markets.
